What is Filmmaking?
July 1st, 2009What does the term "film making mean?
It simply means the production of a movie, based on a story idea that was written into a shooting script which was either written by you or someone else. Filmmakers often collaborate with people who take on different roles for the production of the movie. Some independent or starting filmmakers wear many different hats, carrying many of the roles such as screenwriting, producing, directing, shooting, editing, and distribution. Depending on how many people and how much money are supporting, a movie can take many years to finish. Filmmaking can be a complex process that involve several key phases.
There are many stages to the production of film.
1. Story Development: The story is written and formatted into a shooting script to help a producer determine the essential things that will be needed for the production of the film.
2. Pre-production is made, the shooting, the cast and crew are hired, locations chosen, and sets are constructed
3. Production is when the director films his movie based on the shooting script.
4. The post-production involves editing the film that is shot, adding sound effects, music and all other effects required by the movie.
5. Distribution. The filmmaker finds a distributer to promote the film and show it to the public. Many finished films fail in the final essential step in filmmaking, so many films go unseen or unnoticed by the public.
